HOUBA story alias history of band
So, what does all begin? We were simply 4 friends (Me, Majkl, Hrdla and later joined us Jirka, whose I knew since 3rd. class of elementary school) and once we decided, to start the band. Jirka had acoustic guitar, we had a collection of foreign tins from flavoured soda water at home .So we binded them together and that were drums. We started try in my room, we screamed, griped and called that punk. After one year it begins to be boring (I was 11 years old, my brother nearly 17) First true try, with real instruments was in trying room of band Močový khameni (bass guitarist from MK was my brother-in-law). Jirka was playing bass, because MK hasn't any guitar. Jirka wondered that there was impossible to play accords, which he knew from his sister. At the end we played something and we recorded it as SRPŠ - that was name of our great band. The record shows that Hrdla made some drum solo, so he became drummer. But in the end we discovered, that Jirka or I probably played the solo. Majkl was lazy, so he only screamed to the microphone-he became a singer. It was about year 1993. Later, when Majkl and Hrdla grew old and they don't want to play with us (with children - so with Jirka and Me). They began attend local rock club (Tukan/Zeppelin), and decided to start real band with real instruments. First impulse was that somebody in Tukan offered to Hrdla drums, for price 1,200CZK. Majkl bought the drums (because he had job yet). Later Majkl bought guitar and small combo too. Then we bought other equipment with parent's help and band was ready to try. At first in my room, later after clearance our cellar, we start to try there. It was in autumn 1995. About this time we made two songs, which we played up to the present (Policie and Vysmátý divadlo). Later we had about 12 songs and we begun to look for some gigs. Our first gig was in Rumburk- 7.4.1996. [fotos!] It was Drop In action, where played bands like SI, Insane Fly, but they don't exist today yet. Our gig was successful at all (I was 14 and we played at 2 o'clock in the morning). There was about 30 friends from Usti (but I had fear of them, because I was only child ;-)) Our next gig was in Frýdlant v Čechách (near Liberec) and it was some rag-day. We played there, but we were so drunked, that some people begun throwing beer pots to the stage. So we decided to form some punk actions in Usti nad Labem. After holiday 1996 join to us second guitarist-Petr Rahouský, who sometimes tried with us .We tried and tried and met Dan Trpišovský (We thanks him for gigs around Prague and Kladno), Our first demo was recorded 18.1.1997, it was Fičící Pes(The name means Whizzing dog in English). We recorded it in studio Reckord (like Malomocnost prázdnoty) and Filda from MP did help us with vocals. In autumn 1997 we decided for recording another demo in another studio with more songs.We recorded 12 songs in studio in Decin- it was November 1997. Demo was named Hnus fialovej (it means Violet disgust.) After produce of this two demos, We did many gigs (just 28 gigs in 1998, mostly in Most - with Průser and MP, some gigs in Kladno, Ledeč n.S., Litomyšl, also many gigs was with Do!Řady). Also we break with our guitarist Petr Rahouský in winter 1998. Divides were on both sides so he suddenly left the band and we were happy, because from this moment we were again just four friends. In June 98 join us new guitarist Hřebík, but he stand with us really shortly.He played with us nearly 15 gigs and left the band in goodly. We done some new songs, tried very hard and in March 1999 we set out to our first very professional studio AVIK, (Our favorite bands were recording there) We were very satisfied with this studio,in very peaceful atmosphere We recorded 15 songs on demo Pan Káč (Mr. Punk). We were really very very satisfied, so we decided that next time we will record only in this studio. We sold about 800 cassettes, so we regularly played all over Czech. In 1999 We played first time in foreign country, it was in Trnava,Slovakia, with Slovakian bands Začiatok Konca, Dr.Pako, Načo názov and Kundotkov syndróm. Through the year 1999 we played 40 gigs all over Czech. Our best tour in 1999 was tour with our Swedish brothers Article Nine. Very good actions were in Moravia, but the best in Ústí, where we started tradition with "Chabařovice fest". At the beginning of 2000 we made friendship and played many gigs with band NVU. Also we played at the largest punk fest in Czech - Anti-society fest. In autumn 2000 we went to studio again. We recorded 13 songs in AVIK. 100 CDs and 600 MCs -Kuře Punk-Pao (Chicken Punk-pao) were produced. In year 2000 we also played in Plauen,Germany in famous club Alte Kafferösterrei. We played there with German legendary band Hass. We made overall 64 gigs in year 2000. In January 2001 we bought a new car. We bought the car mainly because of our week tour in Germany with band Abscess. On the German tour in April 2001 we played 5 gigs. This tour was very successful - we sold 100 cassettes in Germany. This tour continued in Czech with Abscess. As well as in 2000 we made 64 gigs in 2001. In 2002 we're playing maybe most gigs all over the Czech and in July in Klopotnica,Poland [photos!] . And from this concerrt we were invited to Wolimierz,Poland . On vacation 2002 we tried new songs and in September 2002 recorded them in new EX Avik studio. It is our latest CD with 15t songs - Ať von zacvrč (I'm not able to translate the name of this CD) Romana Kohoutová from Znouzectnost is playing on saxophone as guest there [photos!] . In October 2002 we had done next German tour.
The next years were really important in our band - we decieded to go to another tours - in 2003 we toured POLAND and LITHUANIA and was really fine. In Poland we meet band called LENIWIEC - the people were really friendly and in 2004 we realeased very special SPLIT CD with them - its called HOUBA/LENIWIEC - Crazy Bros. On the split CD Leniwiec covering Houba and Houba make covers of Leniwiec. Each band in their own language. This CD was released by PAPAGAJUV HLASATEL RECORDS in Czech and by PASAZER REC. in Poland and were sold about 2000 copies. Than the door to Poland were opened. In 2004 was second our East Europe Tour, once more Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
In 2005 we celebrated 10 years of the band and for the big 10 years show came about 1000 people. We released 3 new songs and also some live gigs + videos. It was limited edition and was sold in 4 months 500 copies.
Year 2006 has 3 specialities - we found finally a second guitarist - he´s called MIRA and he starts directly 10 years after the first concert of HOUBA - 7.4.2006. We toured again - this time 8 gigs - in Poland, Lithuania and Belarus. And we preparing a new long time CD - it will be released in march 2007!!!
